"I've been looking around for a while and found that the 12"" Alpine Type R is what im after to give me a lot of base. The question is how do I wire these up series or parallel? I've seen diagrams on the net but not being the most technical minded person when it comes to I.C.E im have no idea about this. Also to run 2 subs what amp would be recommened for this setup? They are 1500watt btw. Cheers"

you need a 2 channel amp mate then you well be able to run the 2 subs off the 1 amp alturnatively you could get 2 mono blocks for serious base and run one amp per sub but this option could prove costly

Cool ok also can I switch between my normal speakers and have pure subs? Is this something that is built into the amp or is this controlled via the headunit?

"Depends on head unit... I know i've got the option on mine to run off external amp only thus rendering any other speakers not wired to amp null and void... But in answer to your previous question as James said I'd go for a twin channel amp if your happy running just subs from amp and other speakers your door speakers from headunit alone. My set up is a 2/3/4/ channel amp set up to use all 4 channels. Had to use this lol"

"My personal recommendation would be Alpine. Esp if your case Daz as most of your setup is already pre-dominately Alpine... And i know others will no doubt question the choice of amp but again it's your choice. I've always had Alpine and i swear by it but again my own choice... "

Hmmmm should I go twin or get a single sub... im still learning so it might be best to do a basic setup before I go nuts.
