Exhausts

Most standard exhausts systems will comprise of a cast iron manifold then followed by a mild steel downpipe, catalytic converter (modern petrol cars), centre pipe and a rear can.
When replacing your standard exhaust to an aftermarket type you have again a choice to make. Most people end up just replacing the rear can, or getting a cat back system as this is the cheaper option. Full systems are available, but normally at a much greater cost (expect to pay at least £300+ for one of these). Custom systems are also available where you can choose everything from tail pipe design to the exact exhaust note that you want. Mild steel and stainless steel versions are available in most exhaust systems and when choosing what to go for its just down to personal choice. Mild steel ones are cheaper but will not last as long or be as strong as a stainless system. Most companies will offer a car specific exhaust for each model and most companies will offer a few different tail pipe designs, but this is often quite limited especially on lower model cars. Fitting an aftermarket exhaust will always give your car a louder, much sportier sound but as for power gains its normally disputable.
To get the most out of your exhaust, its best to pair it with a decent air filter kit and an ecu re-map.
