"Hello everyone Forgive me if this is a dumb question/wrong forum. I have a mate who runs a small engineering work-shop. He's got a 1970 Bellet sports sedan which hasn't run for a year because he needs to skim the head but doesn't know the stock head thickness. I'm in South Africa in the Karoo - there's no experts out here to help us with this. If anyone knows anything about these cars I would be very grateful for any info. many thanks! zed "

"there is usually an indent cast into the head once you reach this unless you are modding then its scrap. a general skim is 6thou of an inch = less than a piece of papaer. has the head gasket gone or has it been cooked up?"

thanks for the replies. The problem is we can see that the head has been skimmed many times - the deck surface is now close to the manifold studs. It will need a plate to restore it. But without knowing the stock head thickness we don't know how thick a plate to make. It's quite a special car - the only one in South Africa they say it will do 190km/h when it runs - for a 1970 1600 motor!
