Hi Everyone

New to club and the scene.

Please dont let the choice of car put you off... please read on.

I have a 2003 Mazda MX-5 which I have owned from new(I know it has a reputation of being a Hair-dressers car but I am hoping to change that). For the past three years she has been under SORN and garaged. This is because I got married and we had a baby boy who took all the money and only having a 2 seater sports car wasnt really practical.

However the wife has now gone and so I have been thinking f**k practical time to start having some fun again.

I enjoy driving my MX-5 too much so dont want to get rid of her. She corners like shes on rails and top-down driving is great.

Therefore I want to turn my MX-5 into something a bit special and a bit more aggressive.

The plan is as follows at the moment:
1) Get her running sweet again - Thanks to Japanese engineering this will just require a serious service.

2) Boost power - Thanks to the following the MX-5 has there are plenty of things that can be done to the Mazda engine (Im going to go for the Jackson Racing Supercharger to put another 120 horses under the bonnet. Could get more with twin turbos but like the idea of the power being right there from the standing start with absolutely no lag However the JR Supercharger can overload other parts of the car so if Im going to do it properly Ill need a new propshaft halfshafts and will need to stiffen the chassis quite a bit.)

3) Body - This is where I need the help of you good people. I want to get inspiration from other modded cars of all types to decide what I am going to do to the 5s looks. I havnt seen any body kits you can buy off the shelf for the 5 that I like. It is going to require a fair bit of custom build.

4) Paintwork - In my opinion most modern cars come with rubbish paint they chip easily and dont have the gloss older cars do. While my 5s paintwork is in good condition I want to give her the quality she deserves. I will be looking at the paint jobs people have had done and hopefully find somewhere that will give my car a really deep luxurious shine. Would like to stick with red but might go for a metalflake effect. Any suggestions for excellent spray shops?

Anyway to help get insiration Id like to find out when meetings and shows are taking place so I can come along a find out what people have done to their cars.

Cheers

Steve

sounds like you have quite a project planned. Body wise I think its each to their own but personally I would suggest a subtle body kit to suit the style of the car or if it's pertinence you are after then I would leave it standard to save weight on the vehicle.

i would leave the body work, the mx5 handles well and is a little pocket rocket with the right mods! leave it standard and just tune away, get some nice coilovers, and then watch as people wonder what the hell that convertible thing was that just flew past haha
