Airfilters

Replacing your car's standard air filter is an easy first modification for anyone. The air filter on your car basically stops all the mud, bugs and other debris off the road from entering the inlet-manifold, thus filtering the incoming air. All filters will eventually get dirty and blocked, so it is important to replace your filter regularly to keep your engine breathing properly. With most aftermarket air filters you will get a cleaning kit so you don't have to replace it, just keep it clean and they will last a good few years. When it comes to purchasing a replacement air filter there is a lot of choice.
Replacement air filters are widely available and most companies offer a specific one for almost every car out there. If you struggle to find one for your car there is always the universal option. There are different types of replacement air filter available.

Panel Filters

Panel filters are a straight replacement for your standard filter and will be situated in your air box. Panel filters are pretty much the same as your standard filter except they are made of superior materials. Panel filters work great and keep your engine breathing well but will need replacing during annual services.

Cone Filters/Induction Kits

Cone filters/Induction kits will replace your standard air filter and air box. These filters perform really well and BHP gains are possible, but not in every case so don't get your hopes up too much (engine re-maps can help unlock any power gains from these filters). You will often obtain a deep engine note on hard acceleration after fitting cone filters/induction kits. Most people will replace the standard air filter with cone filters/induction kits because of the sporty sound your car will now produce with the new kit.
