Aston Martin Lagonda

Car Reviews » Aston Martin » Lagonda

The Aston Martin Lagonda was built between 1976 and 1989. The model was launched at 1976 London Motor Show. Aston Martin produced only 645 of the Lagonda models. At the time of production, Aston Martin was suffering from financial difficulties. Aston Martin was known at the time for producing 2+2 models, but then changed their usual design to produce the Lagonda which is a four-door saloon, which included a V8 engine. The model has an unconventional design and resulted in a split reaction from the public and car enthusiasts. The Lagonda was the first car to use a computer management system, and was the first to include a digital instrument display.

The exterior of the Lagonda drew a lot of attention at its time of release. The car has letterbox fog lights, a chrome portico grille, liquid crystal instrument display and touch sensitive buttons. It was regarded as futuristic and unusual. However, because the model was launched so soon after it had started to be designed, there were a lot of problems with the car. This was because of the problems with the electronics and problems with the instrument display. Later models will now have analogue dials on the dashboard so the dials are now more reliable. The interior uses polished walnut in an attempt to make the inside of the Lagonda attractive for the driver and the passengers. The car does lack legroom in the back for rear passengers, so they may have an uncomfortable journey.
