Throughout its production, the Chevrolet Caprice was the most expensive and luxurious model released by Chevrolet. There were six generations of the Chevrolet Caprice.

The first generation was produced between 1965 and 1968. The model was very well received when it was first released. The interior was made with higher quality materials. This included higher grade carpeting and vinyl seats and door trims. Walnut trim was used on the dashboard to make this model different from other models available. However, you had to pay extra for added comforts such as power steering and air conditioning.

The second generation was produced between 1971 and 1976. Chevrolet made several changes to the styling of the Caprice. The door handles were now flush pull up exterior door handles. Chevrolet refined the suspension of the model to improve the feeling of the ride. The new version was fitted with an egg crate grille. The interior of the new design was also changed. The steering wheel was a two spoke steering wheel feels comfortable when driving.

The third generation was produced between 1977 and 1979. Chevrolet designed this new model in a way so the driver and its passengers had more room. The model was designed to be lighter and had smaller engines that were supposed to save on fuel.

The fourth generation was produced between 1991 and 1996. The new style was awarded the Motor Trend Car Of The Year award. This model replaced the more rectangular design with more aerodynamic sheet metal.

The fifth generation was produced between 1999 and 2006. The Caprice was revived for the Middle East Market. Chevrolet released both left and right hand drive cars. The Middle Eastern Caprice was released in four versions, a sporty SS, base LS, standard mid-range LTZ, and the range topper Royale.
