"DONT what ever you do pour hot water over it... thats how i blew my mondeo engine up haha. best way i recon is good old elbow grease.. get a stool. sit down with some soapy water dry cloth etc and get a scrubbing. i did it on my 1994 corsa spent best part of 5 hours under the bonnet cleaning the end result was well worth the graft... or you can pay to have it cleaned which is just boring imo"

"well at merc they used to use TFR i believe (grant will correct me if im wrong! lol) and a jetwash! but just protect any airfilters etc if you do this and leave the car to dry before starting il always remember womble had his airfilter protected by a plaggy bag and forgot that it was on there turns engine on and the suction just crushed all the filter looked a rather odd shape! "

worst ive ever done is with my 1994 mondeo. i got bored of wiping all cob webs off etc. so thought it covered airfilter up with a bag. along with the coil. then poured a huge bucket of boiling water over the engine bay... little did i know that my HT leads were NOT inserted correctly. so resulted in water getting in with the spark plugs and even into the engine. after about 2 week of driving around like this the engine eventually blew up and sounded wank. so traded it in for the 206

"The worst thing you can do imo is use a jet wash get some engine GUNK its about £5 for a gallon which is well enough and a stiff brush and then loads of rags and be very very wary with water also. "

"Only Phil would pour water over an engine I used a mixture of WD-40 Alloy Wheel cleaner and flash dash (not all at once depending on texture) to clean mine up. Took 20 hours in total but my engine/bay is a lot bigger."
