Oils

Most breakdowns occur due to poor engine maintenance and servicing due to most people not knowing what type of oil to put into their car. You should always change your oil in a service as well as ensure it has enough. Too much can flood the engine and too little can cause the engine to seize.

Why Is Oil So Important For Your Car

The most important job of oil in your car is to stop the metal services in your car grinding together by creating a protective film around the different parts of your engine. It cleans your engine of the by-products produced by your car, and keeps the engine cool by moving the heat away from the moving parts of your engine. Coating the metal parts of your engine will stop exposure to oxygen, which will then reduce the chance of rust build up in your engine.

What Type Of Oil To Use In Your Car.

As previously mentioned, it is essential to ensure you use the correct type of oil for you car. If you use the incorrect type, it can seriously damage your engine. Please refer to your user manual or owners club for guidance. You may void your car's warranting if your car's manufacturer says one type of oil and you put in a different kind.

Conventional Oil

Conventional oil is oil refined from crude oil which is pumped from the ground. It derived from petroleum. Conventional oil can contain sulfur and wax, which after time can result in sludge build up within your engine.

Synthetic Oil

Synthetic oil can sometimes cost up to 3 times more than conventional motor oil. Synthetic oil is a lubricant which consists of artificially made compounds, which results in higher purity oil. This means the oil can handle greater engine temperatures before it breaks down.It does not vaporize as quickly as petroleum. Synthetic oil has a much lower pour point which means it has better lubricity. This results in the oil being able to get where it is needed in your engine rapidly, even after a cold start. Synthetic oil is treated with more additives, resulting in there being a longer amount of time before you have to change your oil. Fewer impurities are found in this type of oil. Impurities will cause your engine harm and could result in premature engine wear. This type of oil also uses less power from to pump the oil around your engine. This results in an increase in fuel efficiency. It is argued that this type of oil works better in higher performance vehicles.

Mineral Oil

Mineral oil is a natural oil and is basically a refined version of the oil that comes out of the ground. Mineral oil is an inexpensive byproduct of petroleum. This oil is from a natural origin and is a result of fractional distillation. All though your engine can run fine on this with a regular service. Mineral oil will never give the protection you can get from a synthetic or semi-synthetic oil.

Semi-Synthetic Oil

Semi-Synthetic oil is also known as 'synthetic blends.' Semi-Synthetic oil is basically a mixture of mineral and no more than 30% synthetic oil. Semi-synthetic oil can be up to 3 times better in reducing wear and tear on your engine. Semi synthetic oils are designed to give you the exact same advantages and benefits of using a synthetic oil without costing you as much.
