The Fiat Barchetta was developed between 1990 and 1994, but was not produced until 1995. The Barchetta continued being produced until 2005. The Barchetta did cease production for a short time in between May 2002 and 2004. The model was originally based on the chassis base of the Fiat Punto and Barchetta means Little Boat in Italian.

The looks of the Barchetta are very distinctive. It has a classic overall shape and the attention to detail adds to the overall look of this model. There are no back seats in the Barchetta so the front passenger and the driver have a generous amount of room in the car. The seats are also of a high quality and offer lots of support. However, the vehicle can become uncomfortable if travelling long distances. There is also a lot of road noise especially when travelling at higher speeds. The interior is uncluttered and the only storage space are the two small door pockets and also a small storage box behind the hand brake.
