The Lancia was founded in Italy in 1906 by Vincenzo Lancia. The Lancia is commonly known for many engineering inventions. In 1913 it was the first car manufacturer to offer electrical equipment as
standard. Since this period the Lancia has developed many other innovations. For example, the Lancia was the first company to fit five speed gear boxes into their car designs. Until the 1960s the
Lancia was famously known for not being connected to other car companies. However, in 1969 the company had to accept an offer from Fiat to buy them out. The company had concentrated too much on their
high standards of production. This resulted in cost effectiveness being sacrificed. The company had to sell up. However, since buying out Lancia, Fiat still uses the Lancia brand.
