Car Reviews » Citroen » XM

The Citroen XM was produced between May 1989 and 2000, and is an executive car. The XM was awarded the European car of the year in 1990. Citroen sold 333,775 XMs in the 11 years of production.

The XM was launched as the replacement to the Citroen CX. Even though the two cars shared a number of similarities, there were also several differences between the two. The SM was prone to rust, so the XM was fitted with a part-galvanised body shell to reduce the risk of rust. The SM was also prone to leaning in to corners, so the XM had an active electronic management system of the suspension. The exterior of the XM drew a lot of attention thanks to its extreme slender body. This design drew heavily on the Citroen SM of the 1970s. The XM also drew several features from the Peugeot 206. This included the same floor plan. The lift back design was thought to be desirable in European countries.

The XM comes fitted with a number of safety and security features. The XM is fitted with an advanced braking system. There are four airbags fitted to ensure the driver and the front passenger are better protected in the even of an accident. The security features include remote control central locking and is fitted with a device that automatically locks your boot as you start to drive away.
