"ok ive just bought him so be nice to me as im not really very clued up on cars. now my skylines sort of semi but mostly automatic i can handle that and i understand it but its apparently a ""Tiptronic gear box"" now is tiptronic just a posh word for an auto or does it mean something else? also if anyone can give me info on my car its appreciated eg what needs doing for services how regularly i need to do them and things like that thanks in advance Caz"
well with the triptronic i aint sure if its same on everycar but my cousin got a triptronic focus and on that it means you can alternate from fully manual semi automatic or fully automatic. basicly letting you use a gear stick as normal with clutch etc. or you can just press the pedal and go

"well theres no clutch at all but there is a gear knob and you select Drive Park Reverse and then you can knock it up or down. so basicly tiptronic is just a posh word for semi-automatic to confuse people who dont know? "
do you have a MANU mode listed on the gear box?
"A Tiptronic transmission is the same as a automatic transmission however it also has an exta change gate with springs either side which override the automatic transmission allowing the driver to shift up or down gears but with the auto transmission still doing the clutch work for you this is most commonly seen on BMW's and Mercedes (tbh i never realised you could get them on skylines but you learn something new everyday!!) more info on tiptronic gear boxes can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiptronic"
"cant put much more clear than that "
"my parents have a tiptronic in there focus Basically its set up as a auto without the clutch obviously but you can change gears your self if the gear stick in the right position which i would think should be the + and - part of the gearbox "
