Hi oliver, firstly welcome to modified-enthusiasts.

First few simple ways to reduce your premiums are:

Advanced driving qualifications
CAT1 Alarm (this reduced my premium by 40-50%!!)
trackers (These also create massive reductions)
CCTV camera over the car
Using a garage rather than parking on the street (although the difference is small as alot goes by your postcode)
Steering wheel lock or disklock saved me 200quid and i paid 80quid for the item bargain!
immobilisers
limited mileage use

Basically anything that makes your risk to the insurance company reduced.

What about taking out insurance to cover your excess. Taking out a higher excess reduces your monthly premium

I havent got a car yet but I have been looking at cars and shopping for insurance, not sure how old you are but by adding my parents as named drivers really reduced any premiums I looked at, I tried putting Phil on but he cost more as he has only driven for 5 years. But I found, as well as friends, by adding parents or grandparents on as named drivers reduces the price.

Yeh your right emma, i forgot that one, by adding my rents on my car it brought it down alot too. My dad loves driving the car too!

As for the excess that depends, if you do need to make a claim it could make it very expensive if you choose that option. I would do this at your own risk, and it depends on how low you want to make your premiums.

I was speaking to Phil about excess yesterday and I'm only going to be getting an old car so I won't need much voluntary excess and hopefully I won't have to claim anyway lol

Just trust yourself to not have any accidents lol and just put the voluntary excess at £150 or something, ive found there's also a compulsory one anyway
What car do you have?

I myself am really struggling to get my insurance really cheap
Cheapest I've found is £1700 it's scandalous
