"ok so the car is all repaired now and so i can laugh about this now so i will share the tale. Was on a return journey from a camping/fishing trip in the dales stopped in Pately Bridge. By this time gearbox felt like it was getting tighter and tighter to select gears. on the way out and up the large sweeping hill past the oldest sweet shop and i couldnt select any gear not wanting to force it to do more damage i kept trying to get the revs right and balance the clutch to select i finally got it in second and crawled up the hill to a safe place to stop. called RAC expecting to be home in no time and think of the fuel i would save BONUS!! So i get told the responce time is poor due to accidents on the A1 and i would be looking at 2 hours and this was around 12:00. So thinking 2hours would fly by i stayed sat in the car awaiting recovery i then got a further phone call to say they cant give a responce time now and they would call me when they could (this is now about 12:45) so i thought well why waste a sunny day and went for a walk on my return i got chatting to the nicest old woman ive ever met and she invited me in for a coffee i declined but after her persistance i finally accepted and went and sat with her while she showed me plants she bought and told me how much she liked pottering in her garden bless her she certaintly helped pass a few hours i then got a phone call to which i used as an excuse to leave a quick as i could and sat back with the car. finally the RAC van is on its way this is about 16:30 he arrives at about 17:15ish and he umms and arrs and decided it was clutch gone and so a definate no go'er. After spending a good amount of time building this trailer that worked like some sort transformer (a robot in disguise) and folding it all out and putting the pins in i pulled the car onto the tow ramp he comes round with these wheel tie clamps to support the car onto the trailer. and he comes out with erm Mr Sweete im afraid the clips wont fit between your tyre and wheel arch so i cant tow you and he walked off and starting undoing what he had just spent a good 30mins building. he then left me confused wondering so am i going to get towed then or is that it im just left here now to die in the middle of nowhere! he then comes back out of his cab and explains a lorry was on route to pick me up and take me home. this finally arrived at about 1800 - 1830. to of which the whole convo was about how he had punched a customer that was rude to him at work a few week ago and how he was concerned on the outcome and how he sees dead bodys in crashes and stuff all the time ""but hes ok with that"" i felt like i was in the film deliverance awaiting for a small child with one tooth on the back seat playing a 1string banjo. all in all i finally landed back in york at about 1900-1930. so the over all conclusion of the stupid little escapade. RAC response time from a call made at 12:00 to get me home in 7 hours from the dales!! Quality! lol"
