Hey everyone. Brand new to this and looking some help and advice.

I’m in the process of (hopefully) buying a 1971 Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3. It’s in very good condition but obviously will need a bit of an overhaul as it’s been sitting relatively idle for a period of time.

However, my project for this is reasonably extensive. I intend to create a car similar to the Rote Sau. So I will need to do a lot of work to the engine to get it to that point. The plan as a minimum is as follows:

1. Re-bore the engine from 6.3 to 6.7 or 6.8 to achieve a big increase in HP and torque.
2. New Weber downdraft Weber carbs with 8 velocity stacks.
3. Some strengthening of components
4. No doubt lots of other things that will be required to get the engine to where I want it to be.

Mercedes Benz recreated the Rote Sau for its 50th anniversary a couple of years back with the Silber Sau and that’s similar to what I am looking to achieve. Link below.

I am basically trying to get a loose ballpark figure on what the cost would likely be for work like this to work out if this is doable or just a pipe dream.

I’m based in N.Ireland and I’ve heard there are good engine builders out here whom I will be reliant upon as my skills are pretty limited. So parts and most of the labour will need to be got.

I’d really appreciate it if anyone can help me.

Cheers
