Aston Martin DB4

Car Reviews » Aston Martin » DB4

The Aston Martin DB4 was a sports car sold between 1958 until 1963 and were launched at the 1958 London Motor Show. The DB4 replaced the DB Mark III. The two models were extremely different, except the 3.7 litre engine used in the DB4 had similar external characteristics to the 2.9 litre engine in the DN Mark III. The unique design and styling of the DB4 soon became the basis that other Aston Martin classics were based upon. Only 70 DB4s were ever produced making this a very rare car.

The DB4 took a lot of the characteristics of the DB2. These characteristics include the wishbone independent suspension, and also the rack and pinion steering. However, the chassis in the two cars differ. The DB 2 uses the the double tube design and the DBA uses a platform type frame.

The interior of the DB4 is typical Aston Martin. The front seats are luxurious and spacious, as the DB4 does not have back seats. In place of the rear seats is an internal luggage shelve. There are five series of the DB4 and each one had improvements to the original series. Early series had simple bumper design and a mesh grille. Later designs were heavier and longer and some also had headlight covers.
